F-S-F again a big force in the Majorcan Mountains

FOOTON-SERVETTO-FUJI keeps being the leading actor in the 19th Challenge Ciclista a Mallorca, which covered its fourth act today with the Trofeo Deià, over a very hilly 142-km parcours that presented three categorised climbs in the final half of the stage. The young group led by Joxean Fernández Matxin and Sabino Angoitia went again into a proof of what they’re made of, and after the second place snatched by Valls on Tuesday, they were again into the chance to notch up their third success in this season. The rider closest to this goal was Italian Eros Capecchi, who escaped up the Coll del Puigmajor (2nd. Cat.) with Botcharov (Katusha) and Taaramäe (Cofidis), joined in the downhill by Horrach (Katusha) and Rui Costa (Caisse d’Epargne). However, Capecchi lost contact along with Botcharov in the difficult descent and ruined his victory chances.
Despite the efforts by FOOTON-SERVETTO-FUJI -bringing out a spectacular overall rendement, with seven riders into the 40-rider pursuiting group- to chase the leading trio down -Taaramäe was dropped shortly after- Horrach and Rui Costa were the final contenders for victory, with the Portuguese overcoming the Russian. After them, Austrian champion Markus Eibegger was reached in the final straight by a charging peloton in search for the 3rd place, taken by Gutiérrez (Caisse d’Epargne) over a remarkable Aitor Pérez Arrieta, taking 4th after a magnificent fifth in yesterday’s hellish route. Valls (9th) completed a sensation appearance by the Gold Generation in the day’s top-ten, while team-youngest Fabio Felline -the Italian is just 19- took an impressive 16th across the line.  The Balearic challenge closes his doors for victories tomorrow with the Trofeo Magalluf-Palmanova, over 158 kilometers and five categorised climbs in which the Gold riders will surely seek for some protagonism. The start will be taken by Capelli, Cardoso, Eibegger, Faiers, Gianetti, Mayoz, Pedersen, Pérez Arrieta, Valls and Vitoria.
